CO2 CompensationOccasion of CompensationCarbon neutral packaging
|
In December 2015, ICA Gruppen decided on a new ambitious climate target - the operations will be climate-neutral by 2020.
Within ICA Sweden, we work proactively to reduce the environmental impact of our products and in early 2016 we chose to change materials in ICA Sweden's plastic carrier-bags from conventional oil-based to the more climate smart material made from sugar cane under the brand “I'm green”.
The plant-based plastic carrier-bag with at least 85 percent sugar cane-based raw material produces significantly lower carbon dioxide emissions than an oil-based carrier-bag, while still offering the best durable material and is 100% recyclable. To completely eliminate climate impact, however, is not possible at the moment, so in 2017 we decided to climate-compensate the remaining carbon dioxide emissions caused by production and transport. In addition to our plastic carrier bags, we have other products that are climate-neutral through carbon offsetting. This includes all our paper bags, the multi-use carrier bags made from sugar cane and the fruit & vegetable bags labeled “I'm green”.
On this page, ICA Sweden informs about the monthly offset volume and the Gold Standard project.

ICA Sweden
